Making a Necklace With Glass Pony Beads

Glass pony beads at beads that are especially recognizable. Glass pony beads are made out of either glass or plastic material, and they are known to be especially smooth. They appear in an oval shape, and while they aren’t as large as crow beads glass pony beads are larger than seed beads.

Glass pony beads come in a variety of sizes. They come in sizes of five and six millimeters most of the time. Some are nine millimeters large in terms of diameter. In fact, many glass pony beads can come in different shapes. Heart-shaped beads are available in some beads, for instance.

The colors of glass pony beads come in many forms. There are opaque and transparent beads, and they can be in marble colors or in an Aurora Borealis color scheme.

The design of a string with glass pony beads is simple. A twenty inch long necklace can be made with them. This is done by gathering two ounces of glass pony beads together. At least two colors of beads should be used, but up to nine can be used for the necklace. Two sterling silver crimps are needed, as are a sterling lobster clasp. A sterling jumpring and a little over twenty inches of C-Flex Beading Wire are also needed. Other materials for the necklace include a crimper tool, pliers and wire cutters.

To start, the first crimp will need to receive the wire. The thread will go through the crimp, and then the clasp will be strung onto it. The other end of the beading wire will need to be held and then moved through the crimp to create a loop. This loop should be used to secure the clasp.

The loop that is formed will need to be strung close to the clasp to where about ¾ of an inch of beading wire will be left. The wire should not be larger than the size of the crimp. With the crimping tool the crimp will need to be folded so that both strands of wire are flattened.

The first of the glass pony beads should now be strung onto the wire. The ¾ inch tail will need to be pulled out after this so that it can be longer and all of the beads can be used on it. If the wire can’t be pulled out easily the pliers will be needed.

After the first bead is placed and the tail is pulled out the tail will need to be cut off so it can be secured well onto the first bead. All of the glass pony beads that are used after this, and the process should be repeated until the length of the beading wire is 19.5 inches long.

Any color variation of glass pony beads can be used, but it is best to use specific color patterns. It never hurts to try new kinds of patterns though.

After all of the glass pony beads are on the beading wire the second sterling crimp will need to be strung. Put the jumpring on after this, and then bend back the wire to the crimp so another loop secures the jumpring. There should be some space between the last of the glass pony beads and the tail of the wire that will go into the last bead. The crimp should be snug into the bead and the crimper will then flatten the crimp. The last part is to cut to wire’s tail so that it does not stick out.
